SEN young adult roadmap
Helping to release happy brain chemicals whilst guiding at-risk youths towards a more promising and hopeful future.
It's not about our SEN children being able to cope, it's about our SEN children flourishing.
Our Vision
SENturion is more than just a physical outlet for children and young adults with additional needs. Our vision is to see give the tools needed to help those that want too, find a career in the fitness/leisure/sports industries, industry’s that’s are rapidly growing but underrepresented by the SEN community.
There is a large number of undiagnosed men and women in the prison system that I believe are there because there was not the provisions like myself in place when they were younger. Instead of using things such as fitness and exercise to help the release their 4 happy brain chemicals the found their release through chemical and alcohol abuse. This then leads to gangs, crime, prison and in some sad cases suicide. Senturion wants to provide as much help as possible to avoid this happening to the SEN children of today.
We have ongoing projects funded by the National Lottery, Surrey University and Surrey Sports Park ran through our sister company; SENturion Fitness Coaching CIC.
My success’s have ranged from helping youngsters gain a place in university, finding work as personal trainers to seeing a non verbal child try their hardest to thank me for their session.
We are here to help overcome hurdles when no one else believes in them.
I have seen so many SEN children overcome hurdles that others thought impossible.
As I coach these individuals I educate that from a practical standpoint. Knowing that the large majority of SEN/ND learn for better from demonstration and trial and error rather than from a text book, I take this approach when executing my own education. I teach the children and young adults how the body works during exercise, and how we can transfer those movements to sports and simple day to day activities. I explain how the cardio vascular system works, how different body parts work and energy systems. This comes from my 29 years in this industry. I tailor every session to the individual and use the appropriate language when explaining what and why we are doing something.
Our Mission
To offer equal access to physical activity programmes and educational workshops to schools and communities that inspire and engage children & young adults to become and stay active, whilst having fun, regulating their emotions, enhancing their academic focus and proactively preventing future mental health challenges.
What we do
We offer 1:1 and small group coaching sessions that cater to children of all skill levels. These sessions are perfect for home education groups or individuals seeking focused, customised training. We recognize that each child possesses distinct needs, which may necessitate personalised coaching. Whether your child requires targeted training to enhance a specific skill or struggles with confidence in a group setting, we provide individual coaching designed to assist children of all ages and skill levels in advancing their abilities. We acknowledge that group training can sometimes be daunting, and certain children may benefit from additional support to reach their objectives. Our skilled coaches collaborate with each child to assess their strengths and areas for improvement, creating a customized training plan that optimizes their potential and fosters self-assurance.
Senturion Fitness recognises the significance of education and diverse experiences for every child. Many of our school workshops are specifically tailored to support students with special educational needs (SEN). It is essential for SEN youth to have the chance to exercise freely, acquire lifelong skills, and cultivate a healthy outlook on life whilst building confidence. Led by industry professionals, these workshops aim to impart knowledge and expertise to young individuals of varying learning abilities. They can be arranged exclusively for special needs schools or adapted to include special needs students in mainstream classrooms.
As a member of CPDuk we have written a level 2 ‘Introduction to Fitness’ qualification which is executed in a workshop manner, which we know SEN will find easier to manage, learn from and enjoy. This course has minimal time spent learing from books and more practical work. The course is aimed at a variety of key stages and will lend to building confidence and helping SEN youngsters learn more about how their bodies respond during exercise.

"My son, Harry, has been training with Dan for around 2 years. He has ADHD and ASD. Dan has helped him to focus and channel his huge amounts of energy in a controlled manner. My son has gained confidence and improved his physique immensely, hence improving his performance in the other sports he does. My son is 16 years old and Dan treats him in a mature manner which is not always done at school. I would highly recommend Dan and his programme."
"I've lived with ADHD ever since I can remember and when in school, I would let my ADHD control me instead of being able to control it. If I'd had someone in school that could have helped me understand my ADHD then I wouldn't have grown up thinking that I'm the "naughty" kid, the class clown, the guy that can't sit still, the dumb one because I can't sit and read a book without getting distracted by... well anything... then who knows where I would have ended up or what I could have achieved. I'm lucky in that I managed to do something with my life but many people who deal with these conditions don't get help and get cast aside. I cannot explain the difference this programme has had on my life as an adult."
“Since working with Dan it has made a tremendous difference to my physical and mental health. After going through a rough time trying to understand and often feeling like I was trying to cope, rather than trying to thrive, with my adhd. Dan has helped me do this with his sessions, giving me a focus and a positivity that was often lacking in my younger undiagnosed years. I have seen an increase in my self confidence and a belief that I am more in control of adhd which has led to better regulation of my emotions and my highs and lows which has had a huge impact and is something I found very difficult when I was younger. These sessions would have benefited me hugely if I had these when I was younger.”
Being a parent to 2 special educational needs (SEN) children I soon realised how hard it was for them to access sports and P.E. in a mainstream setting. I spoke to other parents of SEN children and realised we were not the only ones.
I wanted to help change this for my family and others, so I took my 29 years of being in various arras of the fitness industry, my own experiences of being ADHD and coupled those with my children’s needs to drive change.
Being a GP Referral Specialist (qualified to prescribe exercise to those with injury, illness and disability – physical or neurological) and spending 3 years as a fitness and wellbeing manager for Surrey Boarders NHS for acute therapies (adult mental health) gave me the tools I needed to give adaptive fitness to children and young adults with additional needs.
